A
story that is a rewritten version of the original Worlds of Power
story released in 1990 based on CastleVania II : Simons
Quest. "The Measure of a Man" follows the adventures
of Devante White, a modern-day black teenager with an unpleasant
past in L.A., whose nightly visions of the Belmont Clans
past becomes a reality when Simon Belmont appears in his High
School, seeking an assistant on his quest to end the curse Dracula
left him with after the events of the original CastleVania.
Basically the
same story but with a different, less quirky main character (i.e.
no Tim Bradley), all facts and history about CastleVania corrected,
almost all of the campy, goofy humor removed, follows the actual
game much closer, and is retold with a darker, grittier edge
that is far truer to the spirit of the CastleVania series than
Christopher Howells original work was. A couple of other
big changes : CastleVania is no longer regarded as being in another
dimension as Howell wrote, but being Draculas castle, as
the game series states; the villain Thanatos has been accurately
changed to the Grim Reaper/Death. Brand new additions include
a new prologue, epilogue, chapter, and snippets from other moments
in a variety of CastleVania games (and even an excerpt from Bram
Stokers Dracula novel) among other storyline revisions
and additions throughout.
The same story
as the published novel, yes, but told in a slightly grittier
light.
